About our area
The Amsterdam Metropolitan Area (that includes the cities of Amsterdam, Almere, Amstelveen and Haarlemmermeer) will offer a rich diversity of residential and business settings, landscapes and urban centres and will continue to develop in a sustainable fashion, helping to turn this region into a climate-proof zone and reduce air pollution. With economic centres as Amsterdam Connecting Trade (ACT), the Zuidas, the fastest growing town in Europe Almere, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (voted 'Best European Airport') and the port of Amsterdam (fourth largest European port) the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area has everything it needs to be an excellent business location.
Amsterdam
As a city of history and culture, Amsterdam needs no introduction, but it's also a thoroughly modern centre for IT, life science and creative industry businesses. The city is currently building an enviable reputation as a major centre of the knowledge economy, with its two universities, six colleges, two academic hospitals, and 40 independent research institutes. Amsterdam's high quality of life ensures its popularity with a highly educated, international workforce. Connectivity is second to none, thanks to the proximity of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and the state-of-the-art communications, with continental Europe's highest bandwidth.
Almere
Built on what was the once the bottom of the Zuiderzee, Almere is one of the Netherlands' youngest, most dynamic cities. With a spacious, green setting, its own beach, great modern architecture, famously good shopping and a superb infrastructure, Almere is a popular choice for business and pleasure. Centrally located in the country, it has excellent transport links - trains to Amsterdam every ten minutes, for example. No wonder it's predicted to acquire 350,000 new residents and 100,000 new jobs by 2030.
Amstelveen
Thanks to its strategic location between Amsterdam and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, Amstelveen attracts many foreign companies - especially from the USA and Japan. In fact, the Japanese community here (and bordering Amsterdam) is Europe's second largest. These days, however, the fastest growing group of new arrivals is from India. Amstelveen's leafy streets, international population, great facilities and excellent safety record make it a favourite with expats. International companies based here include KPMG, HP, KLM, and Zwitserleven.
Haarlemmermeer
From high-tech cities to traditional farming villages, Haarlemmermeer is a municipality with a fascinating mix of contrasts. At its heart, ever-expanding Amsterdam Airport Schiphol ensures its constant renewal in terms of infrastructure and industry - as well as its great popularity with businesses. But residential areas, green spaces and recreational facilities are also given high priority. Covering 18,500 hectares, with 26 cities, towns and villages, and a population of 140,000, Haarlemmermeer is one of Netherlands' 20 largest municipalities.
